Boyle Contributes to International Wire Journal Feature

At Imperial Wire & Cable Co., we have been offering a variety of wire and cable products such as TFN wire for sale to clients such as federal government agencies, commercial OEMs and defense contractors since 1979. We attribute our success to our exceptional staff, which consistently meets the needs of our customers.

Recently, Edward Boyle, President of Imperial Wire & Cable Co,  joined other industry leaders to discuss professional development in a feature for May’s edition of Wire Journal International.

This article covered observations about how companies attract and maintain a workforce, training, a company’s size, attributes to look for in potential hires, promoting internally, apprenticeship programs and much more.

Here are snippets of what Boyle spoke about on each topic:

Training

“Once hired, the new employee is trained to perform to our company standards. We attempt to merge their particular skill set with our team. Actually, I consider training to be a two-way street. If they’ve created a strong enough impression to get hired, then we would be open to new ideas and perspectives. A fresh pair of eyes can see things that current employees cannot. A new employee’s experience and background could help us become more effective and efficient. We monitor each employee’s performance. If we determine additional training will result in greater productivity, we will provide it. To date, we have provided all training internally.”

Attracting Employees

“A definite plus! By having a smaller workforce, we can appeal to prospective employees by offering a less formal organizational structure. All employees can have direct contact with management on a daily basis. They have greater input in decision-making without the red-tape that larger organizations have to deal with. We put forth more of a family or team approach as opposed to a corporate climate.”

Employment Attributes

“I seek individuals who have different backgrounds and experiences than my own and those of our current team. I need people who can offer insights and perspectives which vary from my own.”

Promoting Internally

“I would prefer to promote internally. I believe current employees should be considered for any new or newly available position. The exception would be if the new position requires a level of technical expertise that current employees do not possess.”
